A Wet Wedding in Port Douglas

Kelly and Rick were married in Port Douglas in October.  It never rains in October.  Except for one week in 2011.

Kelly was getting ready at Club Tropical, looking over the park where the outdoor ceremony was to be held.

It’ll pass, we were all saying, and it didn’t put a damper on the preparations at all.

The clouds were still there, but the rain was holding off.

Kelly looked absolutely stunning.

Meanwhile, at number 8 in town, the boys were getting ready.

And the sun came out.

With 10 minutes to go, they decided they should probably get dressed.

Back at Club Tropical, last minute adjustments to the gown were going on…

… and the rain POURED down.

The flowergirls tried to follow Kelly downstairs

who just looked at rain.

In the meantime, the boys pulled out all stops and sorted out the problem of what to do with 90 guests in a tropical downpour.

“What do you mean you’ve found somewhere??”

For the bride, it was back upstairs in the very colourful lift to await the cavalry.

Who arrived in the form of Conan from Bistro 3 downstairs with a bottle of champagne.

The boys sorted out the guests to move to one of Port’s most beautiful houses which had been organised with a few phone calls.  The owners were away and the guests all helped to arrange the furniture to accommodate a ceremony.

The flowergirls waited,

spilt flowers,

and put the umbrella up to go inside.

Kelly arrived in the Port Douglas Fire Engine.

The flowergirls replenished their petals

and the guests were ready for the bridal party.

Sarah Woods conducted a beautiful ceremony.

And someone rustled up a stool to use as the signing table.

Kelly, Rick and I left for photos, and stopped at On The Inlet for a bit of quiet time and a drink.

We took photos on the OTI jetty,

much to the delight of everyone there.

To a cheering crowd, Rick explained that they both used to work there.  “She used to be my boss!”

A voice came back, “She still is mate.”

And of course to the Port Douglas Sugar Wharf

before Kelly and Rick headed over to Bistro 3 for their reception.

Congratulations you two!  What a fantastic day!
